Diamond anniversary spins into view for Delnor Auxiliary Charity Ball
“The Diamond Celebration: A Past to Cherish, A Promise to Fulfill” is the theme of this year’s Delnor Auxiliary Charity Ball.
It will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, at the St. Charles Country Club in St. Charles. The event will mark 60 years of the Delnor Charity Ball tradition, and will feature cocktails, a live auction, dinner, dancing and entertainment reminiscent of the period when the first ball was held.

Drink to 75 years with the Brookfield Zoo
Celebrate the 75th anniversary of Brookfield Zoo by indulging in wine at the Wines in the Wild fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
The 9th annual event, hosted by the Women’s Board of the Chicago Zoological Society, is themed “Cheers to 75 Years” in recognition of the zoo’s special milestone and its magnificent animals that have inspired millions of visitors to develop an appreciation for the natural world.
National Swing Dance to host Autism Society fundraiser
Swing City Chicago, a weekend dedicated to a dance called West Coast Swing, will feature a unique fundraiser on Halloween for the Autism Society of Illinois from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
The fundraiser will involve 25 of the top West Coast Swing professionals from across the country. Customers will pay $10 for 10 minutes of the professional dancers’ time. They can use that time however they want — to take a mini lesson, chat about dance or even dance with the professional; 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Autism Society of Illinois.

Walk the red carpet like a movie star as paparazzi snaps your shot at the Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation’s two-day gala celebration, “Lights, Camera, Action! A Red Carpet Affair,” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The fundraising event for Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital will have Joan Rivers, Marilyn Monroe and Lucille Ball impersonators in attendance, while you get the chance to check out Academy Award-winning movies, like “Sunset Boulevard” and “Million Dollar Baby,” at Bolingbrook’s newest theater Gold Class Cinemas, 619 E. Boughton Road, at the Promenade Bolingbrook.
Pink Nite! festivities at This Must Be the Place in Lemont to help fight breast cancer
“Pink Nite! A Ladies Evening Out Fundraiser” to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer will be hosted by This Must Be The Place, 206 Main St., in downtown Lemont. It takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
The evening will feature dinner and specialty menu items including Pink Ribbon Martinis and Sweet Strides desserts. Activities include raffles, Ladies Pub Trivia, mini facial and light therapy treatments, and massage services. Crafters and artisans will sell unique items. Specialty products from Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, In Pursinators and Silpada jewelry also will be available for purchase.

Pig roast fundraiser to debut at Arrowhead
Arrowhead Restaurant and Bar will launch its first Pig Roast in which a portion of ticket sales will benefit the District 200 Schools. Intended to become an annual event, it will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.
The menu also features specialties such as cole slaw, corn on the cob and apple pie. Arrowhead will hold several raffles for both adults and children with prizes including sports tickets, hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates and school supplies.
Advance tickets purchased by Sept. 10 cost $14 for adults, and $7 for children 10 and younger. After Sept. 10, they cost $17 and $10, respectively. Hardly academic: Geneva shopping spree turns playful for a cause
“Viva Geneva” is a new shopping experience created by the Geneva Academic Foundation to support the town’s schools.
Held downtown, the event offers raffles, food and wine samplings, a scavenger hunt and entertainment. For a $50 contribution, participants receive $25 in merchant bucks, a coupon book worth more than $150 and many shopping specials.
Big fun to raise big money at Goombay Bash charity party planned at Navy Pier
Hawaiian shirts are welcome at the ninth annual Goombay Bash, one of the Chicago area’s largest charity fundraisers, returning to the Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Aug. 8.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the annual Caribbean-style party that benefits the H Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in La Grange that raises money for cancer research. The event includes a gourmet buffet, live music and dancing, silent and live auctions, fireworks, raffle prizes, and live drawing of a $10,000 prize. Dress is casual.
"We're returning to the wonderful Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier after a great event last year, where we raised $500,000 in one evening. These dollars go a long way to positively impact cancer research, and guests really do have a blast during this fun and entertaining party," says John Rot, who chairs the H Foundation.
Feel lucky, dear reader? Marklund selling 100 tickets for Las Vegas vacation drawing
Marklund offers a special drawing with unusual odds. Only 100 tickets will be sold at $100 each for a trip to Las Vegas including round trip airfare for two and a two-night stay at Tuscany Suites and Casino, just east of the famous strip. The trip must be taken by Feb. 14 (Valentine’s Day for you romantics out there).
All proceeds benefit the individuals served by Marklund: infants, children and adults with severe developmental disabilities.
