National Get Outdoors Day at the Morton Arboretum

Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day and organizations around the country are gearing up for the day with special activities that incorporate health and the outdoors.

The Morton Arboretum in Lisle is participating in the national day on Saturday, June 13, in an effort to encourage a healthy active lifestyle outdoors for children.

“It’s important for parents to make an effort to get their children outside, to make the time to get their kids playing amid trees and nature," says Katherine Johnson, Arboretum Children’s Garden Manager. "Nature play helps stimulate all five senses, combat obesity and attention deficit, and helps youngsters take an interest in the environment.”

The Arboretum provides engaging experiences in the outdoors via:
-    The award-winning, four-acre Children’s Garden
-    The one-acre MAZE Garden
-    The whimsical, imaginative Animal Houses exhibition of 11 animal dwellings
-    Hiking along 16 miles of trails
-    Bicycling along nine miles of roads

All the offerings above are free with Arboretum admission. The 2009 rates are:
$11/adult, ($7 on Wednesday), ages 18-64
$10/senior, ($6 on Wednesday), ages 65 and over
$8/child ($5 on Wednesday), ages 2-17
Under age 2 is free
Parking is free

Conveniently located at I-88 and Rte. 53 in Lisle, Illinois, the Arboretum is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time or sunset, whichever is earlier.
